The Old Republic Building started life in 1925 as the Bell Building. Although Vitzthum & Burns are not a well known name in Chicago architecture, they did design several important skyscrapers during the 1920s and 1930s, including this one. Typical of many of the buildings of this era, the Old Republic is clad in terra cotta with classical ornamentation.
