Welcome!

April 2006: I have posted higher quality pictures for my Tulsa pages, and added some new images, too.

January 2006: I have added a page with 6 photos on the Price Tower, a Frank Lloyd Wright building in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

December 2005: I have posted a higher quality picture for Chicago's Old Republic Building and added a third picture for its Allerton Hotel.

November 2005: I have posted higher quality pictures for my St. Louis and Chicago pages.

September 2005: I have just updated my site for the first time since 2002 with a complete redesign. I've taken thousands of pictures in the past few years and I'm preparing some of them for posting on this site. I have now replaced the pictures on my New York pages with higher quality versions.

My camera equipment

Because my interest in architecture has grown over time, some of my early photos are not as good as my more recent ones. Some of my oldest photos were taken with a simple 35mm snapshot camera. I upgraded to a Nikon N60 SLR in 1999 so many of the better ones were taken with it. However, many of the photos on my site were taken with a Canon PowerShot A40, an early 2-megapixel snapshot camera that took excellent interior pictures even without a flash. I have just received a new Canon PowerShot S2 IS, a 5-megapixel ultra zoom digital camera, and it takes excellent pictures.

I hope you enjoy my site. My job keeps me busy, so I may be slow to make changes to this site, as well as to respond to e-mail. If you contact me, I will try to get back to you as soon as possible. I do enjoy getting e-mails, so feel free to send them to me.

Why I created this site

As close as I can tell, my love of architecture started in January 1990 when I visited Chicago for the first time. It was my first visit to a big city and I was awed by the tall skyscrapers. The following year, I visited Los Angeles and was again excited by all the wonderful buildings.

My enthusiasm for architecture has increased significantly since that time. I now plan trips specifically to see the buildings. I do research before arriving in the city and now make a point of buying at least one guidebook for each city I visit.

My interest in architecture is primarily in commercial buildings, particularly skyscrapers. My favorite style is Art Deco. Popular during the 20's and 30's, Art Deco is characterized by great attention to detail. The intricate designs used in commercial and public buildings during this period was incredible. Ornately decorated building with special touches are so amazing to view in light of more recent construction. My appreciation for more current construction has been increasing the last few years. I've tried to include those on this tour as well.
